About us

We are Metsa Noma™

Students of the plants and the Shipibo-Konibo tradition, since 2015.

Here you can read who we are, where we come from and who we learn from.

Daphne Metsa Noma
Where it began

Hey there, I’m Daphne Metsa Noma

I grew up in a family with a lot of love, and with a lot of traumatic events too. It became a heavy load to carry, and at some point it ended in a burnout and a deep sadness. That turned out to be where my healing began.

In 2015 I met the Sacred Plants, and I followed the call to the Peruvian jungle.

The plants became my allies on the journey to rediscovering my light, my essence, and the boundless love that shapes us all.

I learned from Maestra Manuela Mahua and Maestro Don Enrique Lopez, and today from Maestro Sany Meny. I am his apprentice, and I will always be a student.

Now my team and I are the heart of Metsa Noma. We stay true to the tradition, and we keep growing together.

Our story2015

Metsa Noma began in the Netherlands in 2015, with one clear intention: a safe place for people who find the courage to step into the unknown.

The path we walk is an old one. It brings you back to yourself, and to who you have always been.

2019

In 2019 we helped Maestro Sany Meny build Centro Metsa Noma in Pahoyan, a village in the Peruvian jungle. The center carries Daphne’s name, and that was an enormous honor.

Today we host groups there, to heal, to learn with the plants and to build sacred relationships.

Now

This path has not been easy, especially because we are not Shipibo. Under the strict guidance of Maestro Sany Meny we learned to sing Shipibo icaros, to create safe spaces and to honor the Shipibo-Konibo ways.

The plants became our allies. They keep reminding us of the light and the boundless love we were created from.

Our teachers

Who we learn from

The Shipibo-Konibo have a deep connection with Madre. Through her they learn to connect with other plants and the natural world. In ceremony they also learn how to conduct dietas, which strengthens their connection with the Master Plants.

Maestro Sany Meny

Maestro Sany Meny

He began working and studying with the plants more than 20 years ago, alongside his mother, Maestra Claudia. Through years of dedication he earned the title of Maestro and became an Onaya, “the one who sees”. Sany Meny is his Shipibo name, passed down through generations. It means “the one who heals”. Daphne and her team are his apprentices, and forever students.

Maestra Claudia

Maestra Claudia

Mother of Maestro Sany Meny, with over 40 years of experience. She shared her knowledge with him and guided him in the ways of the plants.

Maestro Oscar Rodriguez

Maestro Oscar Rodriguez

Shipibo, born in Pahoyan near the Ucayali River. He trained for over twenty years under Benjamin and Gilberto Mahua, and has since become a teacher to Maestro Sany Meny as well. By night he holds ceremonies, by day he works as a nurse in the villages along the river. In 2023 Maestro Sany Meny invited him to the dietas, and their icaros beautifully complement each other.

“In these changing times, we need to come together. To share our strength. To learn from one another.”

In a ceremony I received a clear message: build a community. It felt like a calling, and those were the words.

That is how the Metsa Noma Tribe began, a place where people meet with open hearts and walk this path together.
